CopyTrader™ enables you to see what real people are trading in real time, find and follow investors you like, and copy their investing activity with just a few clicks.

To start copying an investor, the minimum amount required is $200. The maximum amount you can invest in a trader is $500,000.

You can find all the investors to copy with eToro’s CopyTrader system here. You can copy up to 100 investors simultaneously.

You can start copying an investor at any time. Each position in a copy is counted as a single investment and opens for you with the same proportional amount as a percentage of your allocated funds.

When you start copying another investor with the CopyTrader™ system, eToro implements an automatic reallocation of the assets. This means that your initial investment will proportionally mirror the copied investor's portfolio.

You can perform several actions in your copy: pause and resume copy, add and remove funds, set and edit the Copy Stop Loss, and close individual positions or fully close your copy.

Copy Stop Loss (CSL) is an instruction to close a copy if the value of the entire copy drops below a specific dollar amount or ratio.

You can use this to protect your investment - to automatically sell the copy investment if its value goes down.

CSL is mandatory on every copy of CopyTrader™

You can set the CSL anywhere between 5% and 95%.

For example, you choose to copy a trader with $1,000 and set the CSL at 60%. If the copy value, including the profit/loss over all trades, drops below 60% of $1,000, the whole copy would close, and the remaining funds ($600) would be returned to your balance.

You can adjust the Copy Stop Loss (CSL) to your preferred level of exposure while opening the copy or at any time after the copy is opened.

Every time you edit your CSL once the copy is opened, the new value will reflect as a percentage of your copy equity at the time of the edit and not the original allocated amount.

When you start copying another investor with our CopyTrader™ system, eToro implements an automatic reallocation of the assets. This means that your initial investment will proportionally mirror the copied investor's portfolio.

To calculate the size of each newly copied trade, it’s capture the percentage of the copied investor's portfolio value (asset holdings, unallocated cash, and the total unrealised value) based on the current market value. eToro then mirror the same proportion in your copy, relative to the amount you have allocated to the copy.

The percentage of equity invested in each asset (weighting) will be exactly the same in the copier’s and copied portfolios at any point.

For example, an investor splits their investments 50/50 between two assets. Market movements cause that split to become 60/40, and then someone copies them. The copier’s portfolio will reflect that 60/40 split.

eToro system will recalculate the correct weightings of your investment in these instances:

• Market movements change the value of assets

• The copied investor deposits or withdraws funds

• You add more funds to, or remove funds from, your copy

• You resume a copy after pausing
  

The reallocation process may take up to 2 business days. For assets that require rebalancing, positions may be opened and closed automatically to achieve the correct weighting. As a result, some profits or losses may be realised within the copy. However, the overall value of the copied investment remains unaffected.

How do I start copying a trader?

To start copying an investor with the CopyTrader™ system:

1. Choose the investor you want to copy. Check the Discover People tool to find someone who fits your needs and objectives.

2. Click “Copy”.

3. Enter the dollar value you wish to invest.

4. Select your preferred CopyStop Loss.

5. Click “Invest”.

Each position in a copy is counted as a single investment, and will open for you with the same proportional amount as a percentage of your allocated funds.

During market hours, the positions will be opened in your copy investment. If you start copying an investor when the market is closed (for example, during weekends or market breaks), this will create orders to open positions when the market reopens.

The value of a CopyTrader shows the exact amount of money you would get back in your account balance if you were to stop copying the trader.

It takes into consideration:

• the initial invested amount

• funds that you added to the copy (Money In)

• funds that were removed from the copy (Money Out)

• profits and/or losses

• any fees or dividends that were credited or debited on the copied positions
  

The value of your copy balance is calculated as follows: INITIAL + MONEY IN/OUT + P/L - FEES = VALUE

Right under the ‘Value’ figure, you will see the profit and loss that the copy has made since it was opened (shown in dollars and percentage difference from the ‘Invested’ amount).

Yes. Dividends are paid on both manually opened positions and positions within a copy.

If you hold a stock or ETF, your account will be credited or debited with the amount each time it pays a dividend.

If you hold a position on an index, there may periodically be an ‘adjustment payment’ to compensate for any dividends paid by the underlying assets.

For stocks, ETFs and indices:

• If you hold a buy position, you will receive the payment in your ‘cash available’ balance, minus any withheld tax if applicable.

• If you hold a short position, the amount will be deducted from your ‘cash available’ balance.

eToro also supports and distributes special dividends, where a company decides to pay a one-off dividend outside its usual recurring dividend schedule.
